With the three week QUB Easter holiday period beginning tomorrow, many students will be escaping from the QUB campus and travelling to warmer climates. However not everyone will be able to travel as cheaply as geography students, and RAG enthusiasts, James Rodgers and Emma-Jane Faulkner.

On Saturday morning the pair embarked on a 36 hour long ‘Jailbreak’ with the aim of travelling as far away from Queen’s University campus for free within the allocated time period. The aim of this rather ludicrous sounding game? To raise as much money for this years QUB RAG charities.

RAG stands for ‘raise and give’ and is the official fundraising group of QUB Students Union. Current charities include Leukemia & Lymphoma NI, SOS Bus NI, Aware Defeat Depression, and Autism NI.

The QUB RAG travellers kick started their charity attempt by hitchhiking to Dublin airport where the duo’s friends sponsored their Ryanair flights to London Gatwick.

From there, the duo travelled for free to London Victoria on the National Express.

Requiring much needed sustenance James and Emma grabbed a quick McDonalds in Victoria Station, however the team continued to raise money while eating dinner by continuing to fundraise in the restaurant! After a busy day of travelling and fundraising the pair found shelter in the Comfort Inn, where they were allowed to grab a few hours of sleep in the lobby area.

After a quick snooze, the couple managed to jump onboard the Eurostar first thing this morning and recently posted the following message on Twitter….

The guys have almost raised their £500 goal online, but they still have some way to go. If you would like to donate to the RAG team, and help James and Emma on their travelling challenge, TextGive: QRAG99 (£donation) to 70070 (suggested £5).

(All money raised online will go towards Leukemia & Lymphoma NI, however other funds raised in large buckets, which James and Emma are carrying with them, will be split between the other RAG charities.)
