Nicole McFall

Deputy Station Manager (On-Air)

“That’s one of the great things about music. You can sing a song to 85,000 people and they’ll sing it back for 85,000 different reasons.” – Dave Grohl

About me

Who are you and what do you study?

I’m Nicole McFall, I am in my final year studying Modern History Deputy and I am our Deputy On-Air Station Manager. This is my 3rd year in Queen’s Radio and my 2nd year on the committee. I first joined Queen’s Radio at the Fresher’s Fair in September 2015.

What does the Deputy Station Manager (On-Air) do?

As Deputy On-Air Station Manager, it is my responsibility to manage and communicate with the Presenting, Music, Sound and Technology, News and Current Affairs teams. I want to ensure the very best of QR as a society and as the only Student Radio Station in Northern Ireland, it is given every opportunity to express itself with our high standards of on-air content. My role would often entail the technological maintenance and management of the studio, assisting the presenters with developing and scheduling their shows, the review of music playlists on the SAM system and keeping up to date with the broadcast of current affairs within and outside the campus.

How can people get in contact with you?

You can get in contact with myself, Robbie (Deputy Station Manager (Off-Air)) and Ciaran (Station Manager) at management@queensradio.org.

What do you like to do in your spare time? (E.G hobbies, past times)

I have many pursuits and interests that I like to invest my time in. I participate in horse riding, archery and gaming. My main passion is music. I often DJ at a variety of events and I am keen to learn the piano.

What is the best gig/concert you have ever been to?

The best concert I have ever been to was the Foo Fighter’s concert at T-Vital Belfast in 2012. Foo Fighters were the band that ignited my passion for music and Dave Grohl is by far the most incredible entertainer, who invokes passion in his lyrics and kicks back and parties with the audience.

If you could go to dinner with anyone, who would it be and why?

I think I would go to dinner with J.K. Rowling. She is an absolute inspiration in terms of her die-hard attitude and is spell-bounding in terms of her intelligent outlook on life. I will always value hard-work over privilege.

What is your favourite thing about Belfast?

I am Belfast, born and bred. Belfast is a city that consistently grows with the ebs and flows of today and is entrenched with history. My favourite thing about Belfast, is the hospitable and caring attitudes of our locals. The food, drink and music scene is class craic as well.

What is your favourite thing about Queen’s Radio?

Queen’s Radio has and always will be a place of opportunity. To find and connect with different students that share similar interests. My favourite thing about Queen’s Radio is that it’s a platform for expressing your own voice and finding yourself.
